What it means to be a ‘Hotovian’ and live by the values
With a busy life, how often do we get a chance to sit back and reflect on our actions and why we do them? Is this something you do yourself, or something you would like to do more often?
For me, I like to walk every day on my own to reflect on the day and working towards my goals. I have taken part in various running races, cycle challenges and triathlons in recent years, but this year I have decided to take some time away from competing and to enjoy keeping fit and healthy. However, I had agreed to complete a charity ride around the Isle Of Wight with a group of people from my swimming club. This was not a little cycle, it was 110km with some impressive hills to attack. The day started at my friend’s house at 6.30am where we met and cycled to the ferry terminal. There were 6 of us in total and I have to say it was a fantastic day and one I am glad I took part in.
I reflected on the day and how my core values are so important to me and how important it is to share experiences with those who hold the same values. I knew the people who had said they would be there, would be and would be encouraging and we would achieve the distance as a team whilst supporting local charities. Being a person who can be relied upon is very important to me. This is a value shared within Hotovo and one we promote from within.
You would think after this, the next day would be spent sitting on the sofa and enjoying a day of movies. I am afraid not. I had signed up to a 14-mile trail running event and was wondering if my legs would be able to take me that far after the cycle. I knew this would be a case of mind over matter. I had agreed to volunteer for the event and so this was a 6.45am start to register participants before running myself and then being the person who greeted the runners at the finish funnel with a smile, a clap, and a medal. Just as the Hotovo value states, I like to create a little fun and energy for all those who finished that day.
Supporting other people is again something I enjoy, and I love to see people achieving their goals. I know the event organisers personally and very much share their value of sustainability. They are a cupless organisation to save on plastic. They always ensure there is no damage to the areas we run and that no rubbish is ever left on the course. I am passionate about keeping healthy and helping others to do the same. I am grateful to work at Hotovo where family and health are key values and demonstrated throughout the company as well as protecting mother earth.
Trust is the final value I have reflected on. For me this is one of the most important values to have in both my personal and professional life. Trust is a two-way street and can take a long time to build and seconds to destroy. At Hotovo I have the trust from my company, my colleagues, and the customers I work for that I will always deliver against expectations and can be trusted to carry out my work in a professional manner. All of which are again core values I hold dear and would presume these are the same for all. Through the Pandemic we saw changes in how and where people could work and working from home became the ‘norm’. You no longer had to be sat at a desk to be ‘seen’ to be working. I am very grateful that I have spent the past few days working from Spain. I have worked my full hours and met all my professional obligations. The benefit for me was that I was able to enjoy a run on the beach before work and enjoy the beach and restaurants in the evening after work. I have worked as hard as I would have from a desk in a shared office but been given the freedom and trust to enjoy the sun as well. Without the trust from both sides this would not have been possible, and this really does make all the difference to me personally. I am very grateful for the people and experiences I get to enjoy and the shared values.
